God’s Story Our Story -From Goats to Grace

God’s Story Our Story

From Goats to Grace

.. Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron… offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them. [2] And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD. Leviticus 10:1-2 (NIV)

The LORD said to Moses: “Tell your brother Aaron that he is not to come whenever he chooses into the Most Holy Place behind the curtain in front of the atonement cover on the ark, or else he will die.… 3This is how Aaron is to enter the Most Holy Place… Leviticus 16:2-3 (NIV)

Truths About Guilt and Sin

  1. Our Sin is Much Worse than we can Imagine.

Romans 3:23. “Fall short.” The standard is the glory of God.  Fall short means we don’t make it.

  1. God’s Grace is Greater than we Dreamed.

Why did God have them use TWO goats?

  • One goat was slaughtered for our sin, showing us that our sin is paid for.

  • A theological concept called “Justification.”

  • A second goat was sent into the wilderness, which illustrates for us the concept of Cleansing.

  1. “The Day” was all about Jesus.

  • The gospel in four words: Jesus in my place.

  •  Jesus did not merely die for us; he died instead of us.

  1. All Ways DO NOT Lead to God.

LORD said to Moses: “Tell your brother Aaron that he is not to come whenever he chooses into the Most Holy Place… or else he will die. Leviticus 16:2-3 (NIV)

  1. You Have to Accept the Atonement for Yourself.

“This is to be a lasting ordinance for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month you must deny yourselves and not do any work—whether native-born or a foreigner residing among you — 30 because on this day atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you. Then, before the LORD, you will be clean from all your sins. Leviticus 16:29-30 (NIV)

  1. For the Rest of Your Life, Respond to this Great Sacrifice.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1 (NIV)
